Dignified Living Choices, Inc. was established in 1998, one of the first FREE Referral and Placement Services in San Diego.
 
In 1996 Emily Raskin Perey and her sister had needed this kind of service during their mother’s final months.  They couldn't get any professional guidance or assistance concerning care, or to improve their mother’s quality of life, and felt helpless and frustrated as they struggled to do it all by themselves.

To alleviate this all-too-common problem, Emily took a sabbatical from higher education.  She left a position as Vice President of    a university in Los Angeles to join with her husband Mitchell Perey in creating a unique service to assist Seniors.  Full Story

With the support of an established Referral and Placement Service in Sacramento, Emily and Mitchell created Dignified Living Choices, Inc. in San Diego.  They studied the legal and administrative rules governing Residential Care Facilities for the Elderly (RCFE), and became certified under state law as Administrators.  To improve the service further, they both went to UCSD Extension and became Gerontological Counselors.
 
Qualified to manage any RCFE, and with Mitchell’s experience with the Safety Compliance Institute, they know how to judge quality.  With a thorough grounding in what is required and expected of the facilities, they set up their Inspection program.    The basis of that successful Referral and Placement Program is:

We are accredited by the San Diego Better Business Bureau, and have been singled out for honors by the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program and by the 211 Infoline service for our volunteer work.  We also serve in positions of leadership in many professional organizations.

We help resolve problems and do outplacements for RCFEs, and are a resource for the Ombudsman, Adult Protective Services, and other public service organizations.  We know the limitations and shortcomings of many facilities so that we can screen out unsuitable places.
